Judy Cassidys clothes speak as loudly as her words do. The 56-year-old has gone from wearing a size 26 to a size 14 after losing 134 pounds. I can even fit into some 12s, she beamed. Cassidy attributes her success to eating smaller portions and exercising in the aquatic aerobic classes at Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center in Petoskey and Harbor Springs. The Petoskey resident first began aquatic aerobics eight years ago after a physical therapist at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital recommended aquatic therapy to ease some of Cassidys ailments. I know so many people who have gotten in my shape and dont do anything, she said. I didnt want to end up in a wheelchair. With the primary goal of being able to walk without the assistance of a walker or a cane, Cassidy first started water aerobics at the Holiday Inn with the Friendship Center. After the tribe bought the Holiday Inn, Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center opened its doors to the class. I credit Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center with a lot. They taught me so much and encouraged me the whole way, she said. In addition to moving better as a result of her weight loss, Cassidy said her arthritis isnt as bad, shes sleeping better and although she has pain everyday, its not as bad as it was. When I saw my doctor eight years ago, he told me my blood pressure was in the stroke zone. My blood pressure is better now. This is a good exercise, I call this move the ‘helicopter’. Remember to keep the back kicks low to reduce hyper extension of the lower lumbar.

I am getting ready to start this same thing. I am just getting over colon rectal cancer and have damage to my hip area which makes floor exercise impossibe. I am so hoping I loose weight also
